The Can-SOLVE CKD Network is advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples by fostering an understanding of Indigenous history and culture as a foundation for respectful partnerships.

At the recent Can-SOLVE CKD annual meeting in Vancouver, network members took part in the KAIROS Blanket Exercise and learned about the creation of a new learning pathway, Wabishki Bizhiko Skaanj, that will enhance researchers’ knowledge of culturally safe health research practices.

As part of this commitment to change, many network members made pledges to help advance respectful partnerships with Indigenous peoples in health research. Together, we are committed to:

  • Looking to examine our racial identities, privileges and biases within and around us
  • Listening to Indigenous voices
  • Learning to champion change in research culture
  • Leading in spreading and sustaining change
